ROANOKE, Va.<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Downtown Roanoke launched a\u00a0new initiative<\/a>\u00a0Thursday to promote a cleaner and safer downtown \u2013 and it\u2019s already in full swing.<\/p>\n

Ambassadors could be found downtown today cleaning off graffiti, picking up trash, and helping patrons.<\/p>\n

The ambassadors are broken into three teams, each with a different focus: a clean team to remove litter and debris, a hospitality team to answer questions and welcome visitors, and an outreach team that will address quality of life issues and check on those in need.<\/p>\n

The hope is to make downtown a more welcoming location.<\/p>\n

\u201cHaving the very visible, they\u2019re in brightly colored uniforms, very visible presence down here six days a week working hard is going to be a real benefit,\u201d Jaime Clark, VP of Marketing for Downtown Roanoke said. \u201cA clean, safe and welcoming downtown is really the cornerstone of a great community, so we\u2019re excited to see that be a regular focus down here.\u201d<\/p>\n
