He&#8217;s one of 19 selfless men and women working around the clock across 90 square blocks of the downtown area.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>\u201cWhether it\u2019s raining, whether it\u2019s cold, whether it\u2019s nighttime &#8212; you know there is always someone out there walking and keeping an eye out for you,&#8221; said James Wells, Block by Block&#8217;s general manager for Louisville operations. Block by Block contracts out the ambassadors.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>Since the protests of 2020, the resurgence of downtown has been a slow climb &#8212; albeit not for a lack of effort from businesses. Several have come and gone within just a couple of years.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>Wells says the ambassadors are part of the blueprint for revitalization.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>&#8220;We\u2019ve done everything within the last year, from interacting with people to helping deescalate situations to providing a friendly face, or a friendly presence around a chaotic situation,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2825\" src=\"https:\/\/www.blockbyblock.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/P1048554-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1438\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.blockbyblock.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/P1048554-scaled.jpg 2560w, https:\/\/www.blockbyblock.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/P1048554-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.blockbyblock.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/P1048554-1024x575.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.blockbyblock.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/P1048554-1536x863.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.blockbyblock.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/P1048554-2048x1150.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2560px) 100vw, 2560px\" \/><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>LDP ambassadors patrol the streets from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. Some travel by foot, others by bike. Many of them have maps on hand.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>On Wednesday, WHAS11 followed along as they went about their daily process &#8212; which includes removing graffiti, cleaning up trash, power washing sidewalks, putting up street decorations, and of course interacting with the community at\u00a0the return of Food Truck Wednesdays\u00a0this season.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>&#8220;We try to keep it fun and keep everyone in a good mood. They&#8217;re doing something that some people would never want to do, but they enjoy doing it,&#8221; Operations Manager Brandon Person said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>And for people like Coleman, the satisfaction comes from seeing familiar faces return to the area &#8212; not just for Derby or conventions, but for a regular Wednesday in April to take in the sights and sounds.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>&#8220;Every day and week and month that goes by, more people are coming back to the downtown area,&#8221; Coleman said. &#8220;You can&#8217;t spell Louisville without spelling love.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__section article__section_type_text utility__text\">\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/louisvilledowntown.org\/ambassadors\/#:~:text=LDP%20Ambassadors%20are%20on%20the,%2C%20Fire%2C%20or%20EMS%20resources.\">LDP Ambassadors program<\/a>\u00a0has been around since 1996, and it&#8217;s grown. The 2020 team had 13 ambassadors on staff.
